Ecosystems: Visual Echoes Art Exhibition |
Description: |
Cuyahoga Valley National Park Association is pleased to announce the opening of the art show “Ecosystems: Visual Echoes,” which will display works by Martin K. Huehner. The show opens on March 27, 2007 and runs through May 25, 2007 at the Seiberling Gallery located in the administrative offices of CVNPA. There will be an artist reception on April 19, 2007 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Martin Huehner is a professor of environmental studies and art at Hiram College whose work is influence by the natural world.
“My artwork is strongly informed by my previous career as a biologist and geologist, and this manifests itself in my attraction to natural processes and the time scales on which they occur. The medium I work in most is clay, which is itself a product of chemical weathering of igneous and metamorphic rocks,” Huehner says.
One piece of Huehner’s work that will be on display is “Time Capsule.”
“My Time Capsules series provides viewers with a glimpse into geological, evolutionary, and ecological time that prevails in forest ecosystems, and consists of samples that represent these different ages,” Huehner says. “All materials, except the newspaper page, were obtained from the Hiram College Field Station Forest. When viewing this installation we are invited to place the typical span of human life in its sequence.”
The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. or by appointment. Call CVNPA at (330) 657-2909 to make an appointment.
